José Manuel Pérez Tornero appointed Executive President of RTVE

José Manuel Pérez Tornero has been appointed Executive President of our Spanish Member RTVE.

He was elected by a two-third majority in Congress in the first round of elections. He will preside over the RTVE corporation and the new Board of Directors.

The President of the Lower Chamber Meritxell Batet told the new Board they had: "a great job and a responsibility to protect and promote our instrument for the guarantee of the right to a truthful and rigorous information of the citizens”. 

José is a professor of Journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​a journalist and the creator and director of numerous television programmes on RTVE.

A Doctor in Communication Sciences and graduate in Hispanic Philology, he is the UNESCO professor in Media and Information Literacy and Quality Journalism (with special incidence in Europe, Arab countries and Latin America); Professor Director of the RTVE-UAB Chair and a member of the Observatory for the Innovation of News in the Information Society.

He also works as the Director of the Scientific Research Group - Communication and Education Cabinet - and head of the Department of Massive Online Courses at the UAB where he directs the Journalism Doctorate Programme.

He has worked with the EBU as a member of our expert groups looking at cultural and educational programming.
