Video game music: the next level

The world of video game music has exploded beyond gaming obsessives, establishing itself as a respected music genre in its own right. At one time, the music would exist as a soundtrack to Super Mario, Zelda or Sonic the Hedgehog, but now vast orchestral scores fill concert halls around the world. Broadcasters fill their schedules around series, podcasts and playlists to keep up with current trends in this fast-moving genre. So, what is it about this area that’s so special? This Music and Radio 60-minute session looks at the perspectives of those working with this musical style and how it is being adapted across varied media formats, from notes on a score to beyond.
