EBU makes recommendations for reform of competition law.
28 April 2020The EBU’s latest position paper addresses the ongoing process of reform of competition law. At a time when online platforms act as bottlenecks for how consumers can access products and services including PSM content, competition authorities must make a value judgment on what needs to be changed. This position paper makes five key reform recommendations to policymakers:
- Acknowledge that competition is not only driven by price;
- Exercise effective merger control in cases involving global platforms;
- Ensure that competition enforcement is conducive to PSM innovation;
- Ensure that competition authorities use all the tools they have at their disposal; and
- Enact rules to fill the gaps that competition enforcement leaves open.
