The EBU has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Weather Kids, a campaign dedicated to combating climate change and securing the planet's future for upcoming generations.

Today, children worldwide will kick off the campaign by delivering futuristic TV weather forecasts from the year 2050. Viewers are encouraged to sign a pledge to act by making financial decisions that align with sustainability and educating themselves on climate solutions and global climate action. The projected forecasts were developed using data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and UNDP’s Human Climate Horizons data platform.

The EBU has played a pivotal role in amplifying the campaign's impact, with numerous EBU Members actively engaged in Weather Kids. Broadcasting in over 80 countries globally, the campaign's broad outreach has been supported by Eurovision News, which has ensured the distribution of campaign content to broadcasters worldwide, reaching audiences across Europe and beyond.

Liz Corbin, EBU Deputy Media Director and Head of News said: “As a strategic partner of the Weather Kids campaign, we're proud to support our Members' efforts to provide their audiences with the facts about climate change. By participating in this initiative, we are leveraging the power of Public Service Media to raise awareness of the risks and solutions, through imaginative and engaging content.”

Next month, the EBU will continue to champion sustainability, hosting The Sustainability Summit for 2024, an online event providing insights in areas such as production and technology, and climate journalism.
