Rose d’Or Awards announce two new award categories, as nominations open for the 59th edition

Following the huge success of Rose d’Or 2019, which celebrated over 500 entries from 30 countries, Europe’s premier TV entertainment awards are now open for entries for the 59th edition.

For the first time, a Rose d’Or ‘Emerging Talent’ award will be made, alongside the coveted individual awards of ‘Lifetime Achievement’ and ‘Performance of the Year’. These will be announced in the run-up to the event.

In addition, for 2020 there will be the ‘Innovation in the Time of COVID’ award for the programme or series, that, against all the odds, re-defined what television can achieve - and how television can be produced - in a time of unprecedented crisis.

The Rose d’Or categories are Drama; Comedy; Comedy Drama and Sitcom; Reality and Factual Entertainment; Documentary; Soap and Telenovela; Children and Youth; Arts; Audio Entertainment; Social Media Video Series; and Studio Entertainment.

Jean Philip De Tender, EBU Media Director, says “Great, diverse content has always resonated with audiences. But this most extraordinary of years has shown how fundamental our need is for information and entertainment, distraction and connection. The Rose d’Or Awards will be an important coming together after one of the greatest ever challenges to broadcasting – and will celebrate how the industry has responded with creativity, ingenuity, and sheer determination to deliver the best productions of the year.”

All programmes and series that have first aired, anywhere in the world, on a broadcast, streaming, online or mobile platform between 17 June 2019 and 30 September 2020 are eligible.

To acknowledge the impact of the virus on the production sector, all entries will be at a 30% discount for 2020.

The ceremony will go ahead on schedule on 29 November 2020 – but as a live online event unless public health circumstances permit the full ceremony to go ahead in person in London. There will be an additional ticket price for the gala final should it happen as a physical event.

The Rose d'Or Awards are open for entries from 9 July until 30 September 2020. Entries can be submitted via rosedor.com
