The EBU is pleased to announce a partnership with Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB) to open a second EBU Academy regional learning hub, in Tbilisi.  

The hub is designed to facilitate decentralized learning in the region, allowing journalists from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to participate in free classes conducted by world class experts.

“We want to create a competence centre for journalists in the Caucuses region,” said EBU Academy head Nathalie Labourdette.

“Our aim is to ensure that there is a community of knowledge in all corners of the EBU Membership. This new hub will ensure we increase learning and development opportunities for personnel and professionals working between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.”

The Hub is the second to be announced this year. The EBU Academy will also be operating courses in Warsaw in partnership with Polskie Radio to provide training to public media professionals from Poland as well as the neighbouring region.

The first courses will take place in Tbilisi with trainer Mark Egan on 1 & 2 May. Day one will focus on mobile journalism and day two on social streaming with a focus on Facebook Live.

Vasil Maghlaperidze, the Director General of GPB has welcomed the Academy Hub:

“This is very important, because today both technology, as well as training, is expensive. The academy will train about 35 students, 15 of which will be from Georgia. This will benefit not only GPB but the entire country”.

The Georgian EBU Academy Hub intends to run two different courses twice a year as well as developing more interactive and online learning for professionals in the region.
