It all began with a recital by the legendary soprano Victoria de los Angeles on 10 May 1987 (pictured). Catalonian cultural life was in the process of reconstruction, and Catalunya Música was to become an important part of that.

Not only is Catalunya Música the classical music station of the Catalan Corporation for Audiovisual Media (CCMA) and an EBU Approved Participant, it has played a key role in promoting Catalan music, musicians, venues, festivals and culture over the past three decades. Great emphasis is placed on the broadcast of live concerts, both national and international.

A whole range of cultural events have been planned throughout this anniversary year. Among them is a selection of live concerts performed by the main Catalan orchestras at the most important concert halls in Catalonia: the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonian National Orchestra (OBC), the Vallès Symphony Orchestra (OSV), the Girona GIOrquestra, and the Lleida Julià Carbonell Symphony Orchestra; and the release of five CDs chronicling the 30 years of Catalunya Música's existence, in collaboration with such musical institutions as the Castell de Perelada, the Orfeó Català Chorus of Barcelona and the Warner Classics and Seed Music record labels. Many of these events will be available to EBU radio organizations via MUS.
