AUB to celebrate 10th anniversary in Senegal

The EBU and its operational arm, Eurovision, will take part in the tenth anniversary of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), contributing to the discussion on the major issues facing African media today.

From 21 – 24 February 2017, the EBU will join Director Generals of African broadcasters (AUB Members), Presidents and Secretary Generals of other Broadcasting Unions, and Members of Governments as well as media and sports personalities in Dakar to look at how to promote authentic content in the African media.

The AUB will produce two symposiums during the event: the first will be on the commitment of African Governments to the management and funding of the sports movement across the continent. Giacomo Mazzone, Head of institutional Relations at the EBU, will be in the panel. The second symposium will be on the future of public service media in the digital era.

The EBU’s Technology & Innovation and Media Departments will take part in the sessions to highlight the opportunities that digital terrestrial television (DTT) can offer to African broadcasters, including: content, business, political and technical aspects. Opportunities for collaboration between the two Sister Unions on this subject will also be discussed.

Eurovision will also present its portfolio of services, including its FLEX Hybrid solution for transmitting content over satellite, fibre and IP as well as its new portal – a dashboard which allows broadcasters to route, monitor and control their primary video feed and enhanced data in one place. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about Eurovision services by speaking with experts at a dedicated stand.

“We’re looking to share our experience in delivering media solutions with the AUB and other Broadcasting Unions in the region and to exchange information about our different markets,” says Graham Warren, Director of Network at Eurovision.
