The UK's Dua Lipa took the top Public Choice Award at this year’s European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA). Online voters favoured the artist who performed at the ceremony along with the other nine EBBA winners.

The singer-songwriter from London referred to her Kosovar Albanian roots during her acceptance speech: "This means so much to me. I live in the UK and come from Kosovo, but above all I feel European."

The winners are selected via the European Border Breakers Charts (EBBC), a  European weekly ratings billboard based on airplay across 50 EBU radio stations.

Hosted by the BBC’s Jools Holland, the EBBAs are broadcast throughout Europe on TV, radio and online by EBU Members.

Eurosonic Festival

The EBBA ceremony marks the opening of the 2017 Eurosonic Festival, the leading festival for discovering emerging pop and rock talent in Europe.

Over three days, more than 300 bands and 4,000 delegates gather in Groningen to discuss the latest music trends.

Laurent Marceau, who is in charge of pop music at the EBU, said: “It's important to bring European musicians and music-lovers together in this fashion. Plus it’s going to be an exciting edition. Our EBU stations are once again at the heart of the festival, and our DJs have been hard at work all year long finding the best new music for public audiences.”

Festival-goers can see EBU-supported acts on our eight Euroradio stages. You can also listen to them via our Eurosonic Compilation 2017.
