The former President of France Télévisions and EBU Executive Board member Rémy Pflimlin has died after a long illness.​

Pflimlin, 62, was President of France Télévisions from 2010-2015 and served on the EBU Executive Board for five years until he stepped down at the end of 2015.

A humanist who was very committed to the European project, Rémy Pflimin was an ardent promotor of strong and modern public service media which contributes to social cohesion, vibrant democracy and innovative audiovisual production.    

As a member of the EBU's executive board and chairman of its personnel committee, he contributed to the cohesion and the transformation of the Union to adapt it to a new competitive environment and the changing needs of the membership.

Generation What was among the many projects he championed while at the EBU, helping make the project a truly pan-European initiative to give young people a voice.

Rémy Pflimlin worked in regional press for many years – including at daily newspaper L’Alsace and for Presstalis – before joining France 3 in 1999.

He was appointed as the chairman of the board of TV5Monde in January 2013 and served as a member of the Conseil d'État from 2015-2016.

Paying tribute to Pflimin, French President François Hollande said he was a man who had devoted his whole life to the press, media and public information and was deeply committed to culture and music.
