MED FORUM 2016 challenges extremist narratives

03 November 2016

The EBU were proud to partner with the Anna Lindh Foundation for MED FORUM 2016.

Last week’s Forum was the largest gathering of civil society of its kind with people from across the Mediterranean coming together to engage in intercultural dialogue.

Hundreds of young people spent three days discussing how to improve understanding between Europe and the Arab countries of the Maghreb and Middle East.

Addressing the opening of the conference by video, President of RAI and EBU Vice-President Monica Maggioni said the Forum provided a great opportunity to discuss how we move beyond radical and extremist narratives:

“We have the opportunity, tools and capabilities to challenge their messages.

“Let’s remember that most of our audience is now moving into digital media and social media. And this is exactly why us – as traditional media – need to be able to reshape our message and our narratives.”

The EBU has been a partner of the Anna Lindh Foundation for a number of years and this year’s conference was covered by PBS Malta.

Further information on the conference and its outcomes are available online
