The Assembly of Delegates of Swiss broadcaster SSR has formally approved Gilles Marchand as their new Director General.

Marchand was unianimously appointed by the Board and will take over from current Director General Roger de Weck on 1st October 2017.

Marchand, 54, has managed Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) for the last 15 years. He acted as Director General in de Weck's absence, representing SRR internationally with the EBU, TV5monde, Euronews and others.

He is also president of Public Media Francophones (MFP) and a member of the Strategic Orientation Council of the University of Geneva.

De Weck will be retiring next year from SSR after seven years in senior management.
