EBU Members triumph at Eutelsat TV Awards

Five EBU Members were among the winners at this year's prestigious Eutelsat TV Awards which took place on Friday night (25th November) in Milan.

The Eutelsat TV Awards celebrate the best broadcasting in the thematic satellite landscape and highlight new concepts that capture the audience's attention and enrich the viewing experience. Over 120 channels from 37 countries competed in eight categories in this year's competition.

France 24 won the prestigious award in the news category for best channel for its coverage of last year's terrorist attacks in Paris.

Dom Kino from Channel 1 Russia won in the cinema category for the preservation of the country's cinema heritage. And Rai Sport 1 HD won in the sports category for its technologically advanced coverage of the Rio Olympics and 4k coverage of UEFA EURO 2016.

EBU Media Director Jean Philip de Tender was at the Awards to present France 24 with their award. He said: “The Eutelsat TV awards celebrate diversity from across the globe. It is good to see so many EBU Members nominated. I am particularly happy that France 24 won the award in news. News is the core business of public service media and now, more than ever, people need to trust reliable sources”.

The success was completed by two awards for best satellite programmes, won respectively by BBC Persian for 'Iran's Nuclear Deal' and by Deutsche Welle for its programme on Currentzis 'The Classical Rebel'.
