Uncovering how diversity and inclusion are being taken up by the European audiovisual sector

16 March 2023

On 7 February, a wide range of stakeholders discussed how to incorporate diversity and inclusion into the audiovisual sector. Above, you can watch the event in full. The session aimed to address the questions:

  • What do we mean when we speak of diversity and inclusion in the audiovisual sector?
  • What are the different dimensions of the terms, and are they understood in the same way in different national contexts?
  • Why do diversity and inclusion matter for the European audiovisual sector, and what actions and strategies have already been put in place?

During the event, a panel discussion between speakers with different experiences and perspectives brought to light many of the answers to these questions. The speakers inclued:

  • Daphne Tepper, Policy Director, Uni Europa Mei, Belgium
  • Marcus Ryder, Head of External Consultancies at the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity, United Kingdom
  • Agnès Saal, Senior Official for equality, diversity and prevention of discrimination at the Ministry of Culture, France
  • Moderator: Francesca Scott, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the European Broadcasting Union.

This event was organised in the context of a project co-funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the social partners in the European audiovisual sector: European Broadcasting Union (EBU), European Audiovisual Production association (CEPI), International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF); Association of European Radios (AER); Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT), European Federation of Journalists (EFJ); International Federation of Actors (FIA), International Federation of Musicians (FIM), and Media, Entertainment & Arts sector of UNI Europa (EURO-MEI).
