Given the increasing and massive shift of political campaigns to digital, it is time that new rules are established to determine the responsibility and obligations of online platforms in the area of political advertising. The lack of rules for platforms in this matter distorts fair competition and the effectiveness of existing national regimes to which our organisations are subject.

In line with the objectives of the DSA, the European Commission's new legislative proposal on political advertising has the potential to improve the transparency of online advertising and address problematic online political advertising practices without undermining the sustainability of Europe’s media.

Public and private broadcasters have come together to welcome the proposal - download the pdf to read our press release.
