Digital Markets Act: EBU welcomes IMCO report, calls for loopholes to be addressed

On Monday 22 November, the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee (IMCO) adopted its report on the proposal for a Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Public Service Broadcasters welcome the improvements brought by the IMCO Committee, such as the inclusion of virtual assistants and web browsers in the list of core platform services. Improvements also include the strengthening of the provisions on self-preferencing – this will cover a wider range of unfair business practices while making the text better more adaptable to future market developments.

The upcoming vote in the European Parliament's Plenary session will open the way for trilogue discussions with the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. We call on policy makers to build on progress already made and to close any remaining loopholes that could allow gatekeepers to circumvent the obligations in articles 5 and 6.

We stand ready to continue communicating with all stakeholders to achieve a positive outcome for the DMA.
