Milen Mitev elected Director General of Bulgarian National Radio

Bulgaria’s Council for Electronic Media has elected Milen Mitev as Director General of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). He had been serving as Interim Director General since August 2021.

Milen Mitev holds a Masters in Law from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He joined BNR’s legal team in 2009 as a Legal Adviser specializing in the fields of media law and copyright. Most of his professional career has been at BNR, including an appointment as Director of the Legal and HR Department from July 2018 to July 2019. He is also experienced in public procurement, labour and administrative law, and European projects and initiatives.

Milen Mitev has been closely involved in the work of EBU bodies and was a member of the Legal and Policy Committee from 2013 to 2019. He was re-elected to the Committee in April 2021.

The main priorities for the new Director General will be to bring the traditional values of radio to the digital world by using new formats and platforms, supporting quality journalism especially in the fight with misinformation and collaborating with the official institutions towards establishing a new sustainable model of funding for public service media in Bulgaria.

He says: “The pandemic brings along many challenges but also opportunities, because during the crisis people turn to public media as a source of reliable and checked information. It is vital for BNR to keep and strengthen its position of the most trusted information provider."
