Turkey reverses decision, renews media accreditation for ZDF correspondent Jörg Brase

Jörg Brase, head of the ZDF studio in Istanbul, has been notified by Turkish authorities that his media accreditation will be renewed, following Turkey’s initial refusal earlier this month.

He left Turkey on Sunday 10 March after being given 10 days to leave the country.

“We are pleased that the Turkish authorities have reconsidered their initial decision," said Bettina Schausten, deputy editor-in-chief of ZDF.

"Jörg Brase will resume his job in Turkey in the coming days. ZDF expects that the pending media accreditation of Taggespiegel correspondent Thomas Seibert and other journalists will now also be issued.”

ZDF’s Istanbul studio is responsible for reporting on Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan. Valid media accreditation is required to conduct research and interviews and to attend press conferences without restriction. Germany’s federal government and Federal Foreign Office also played a role in urging Turkey to grant the renewal.
