EBU Members in Western Balkans make study visit to YLE

Representatives from 5 EBU Members in the Western Balkans have visited colleagues at Finnish Member YLE to experience best practice in order to aid the digital transformation of public service media in the region.

News directors, programme directors and technical directors from RTSH (Albania), BHRT (Bosnia and Herzegovina), MKRTV (FYR Macedonia), RTCG (Montenegro), RTVS Serbia and RTK (Kosovo), made the trip on 4 December.

The study visit looked at the best suitable approaches to the introduction of integrated newsrooms for their own companies.

YLE integrated its newsroom in 2007 and it adapted well to the changing media landscape by transforming its organization, investing in mobile offerings and developing social media strategies.

The visiting broadcasters now have an opportunity to decide which model is most appropriate to them in the context of their technical and human resources.

The workshop was implemented by the Office for Eurovision News Exchange for Southeast Europe (ERNO), and it is a part of the activities implemented within the Programme of Assistance to Public Service Media in the Western Balkans, which aims to contribute to the media reform and professional development of PSM in the region and strengthen their ability to produce increasingly pluralistic, independent and accountable content.

The project runs until 2020 and is led by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in cooperation with the EBU, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Austrian Member ORF and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) and ERNO.
