Mr Ko Dae-young is now the 22^nd President and CEO of the Korean Broadcasting System and began his term on 24 November 2015.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye appointed Mr Ko as chief of the nation’s leading public broadcaster after confirmation hearings at the National Assembly and recommendations from the KSB Board of Governors.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mr Ko emphasized his vision for KBS to continue to lead the development of broadcasting in Korea. He said that in this rapidly evolving digital media landscape, KBS must meet the technological demands to adapt and continue to remain highly competitive in the broadcasting industry, while not losing focus on the core of a public broadcaster’s responsibility to public service.

“The company’s fulfilling public mission and thriving in a competitive market cannot be separated. In fact, the way in which we serve our audience best is through being competitive” Mr. Ko said.  Adding that “the foundation for leading the competition would be best accomplished by wisely allocating our resources to overhaul ‘Program Guidelines’, which could reinforce and enhance the program making standards for KSB.”

Mr Ko has a long history with KBS. In 1985 he joined KBS as a TV reporter and since then has held key positions including Foreign Correspondent to Moscow, Executive Director of News Department, Executive Managing Director of News & Sports Division, General Auditor for KBS Media and President of KBS Business. He was also an Adjunct Professor at Sookmyung Women’s University. In 2011, he earned the 7^th Korean Authentic Journalism Award for his outstanding contributions in the field. Born in 1955, Mr Ko studied English language at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He will serve as President and CEO of KSB for three years until November 2018.
