FIS World Snow Day partners with the European Broadcasting Union

The International Ski Federation (FIS) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) will join forces to promote snow sports among the younger generations through FIS World Snow Day, which will take place for the second time on 20 January 2013.

FIS World Snow Day aims to promote interest in snow sports by encouraging all stakeholders in the snow industry to contribute to a special day for 4 to 14 year olds and their families on the third Sunday in January every year.

World Snow Day is part of FIS’s international ‘Bring Children to the Snow’ campaign, launched in 2007, which seeks to reverse the decline in snow sports participation by the younger generations.

To promote the event, the EBU will make available its global Eurovision network of broadcasting capabilities and its Members’ distribution channels to spread the message of World Snow Day 2013 through a top-quality promotional trailer.

The trailer, which is free to broadcasters and runs at 20 or 30 seconds, is available in English, German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish. In addition, EBU Members can add links to their online channels (internet, social media) to World Snow Day’s digital online platform:

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper remarked: “The partnership between FIS and the European Broadcasting Union for promotion of World Snow Day is testament to the great partnership between the two organizations. It will not only help spread the message about the importance of bringing children to the snow sports, but also encourage families in cities and other urban areas to experience the joy of snow activities on this special day.”

EBU Head of Winter Sports Ingolfur Hannesson, added: “This fantastic FIS initiative fits perfectly with the mission and values of the EBU and our public service Members. We are pleased to be part of this project to encourage all families, regardless of race, religion or financial status, and in particular their children to experience the amazing world of snow sports.”

World Snow Day

World Snow Day is the second phase of the 'Bring Children to the Snow' campaign. The first phase of the campaign, called SnowKidz, was launched in 2009. The SnowKidz project aims to encourage FIS Member National Ski Associations to promote snow sports in their country. Meanwhile, World Snow Day looks beyond the FIS membership to the wider snow sports community. It seeks to motivate children aged from 4-14 by encouraging all stakeholders to celebrate all things snow around the world simultaneously. In short, World Snow Day is the biggest day on snow all year.
